Stand Up! Take Action! Vote!
We, the People of the United States of America, reject the U.S. Supreme Court’s ruling in Citizens United, and move to amend our Constitution to:
*Firmly establish that money is not speech, and that human beings, not corporations, are persons entitled to constitutional rights.
*Guarantee the right to vote and to participate, and to have our vote and participation count.
*Protect local communities, their economies, and democracies against illegitimate “preemption” actions by global, national, and state governments.
On Thursday, March 4, 2010 Congressman Dennis Kucinich (D-OH) will introduce his privileged resolution, which will require House debate on continuing the war in Afghanistan.
Please call your member of Congress and ask them to become an original co-sponsor of the Kucinich privileged resolution.
On Thursday, Feb. 25, single-payer healthcare advocates will participate in Healthcare NOW!‘s Sidewalk Summit for Medicare for All!, which includes a lobby visit to Congressional members on the Hill. Nearby residents are encouraged to attend.
Healthcare NOW! will be taking taking the call for Medicare-for-all inside the halls of Congress, and PDA will be leading the outside-the beltway effort with a national call-in day.
PDA is asking you to make a note on your calendar to call your representative and tell them that the best solution to the healthcare crisis is still waiting to be debated—Medicare-for-all.
Drastic times call for drastic measures. In order to right the ship of state, President Obama should hire new financial advisors whose main concern is creating a working economy for all Americans, rather than padding the pockets of their former employers.
Unless Speaker Pelosi and Majority Leader Reid hear from us in a big way, Congress will trample a state’s right to implement single-payer healthcare by failing to include an ERISA waiver (effective immediately) and we’ll all be forced to buy deficient insurance policies whether we can afford them or not, like it or not.
Rep. Barbara Lee will forever be remembered as the lone member of Congress to urge restraint in the US response to the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001. Lee went on to cast the only vote against the resolution that has sent thousands of Americans and countless civilians to their graves in Afghanistan. See Lee’s floor speech.
Lee made that heartfelt plea over eight years ago. ...
Former Assistant Attorney General Jay Bybee was the primary author of “legal” memos purporting to justify torture.
He is now a federal judge.
Ask your Congress member to begin impeachment proceedings.
Bring our troops home!
President Barack Obama said to foreign leaders in his inaugural address, “your people will judge you on what you can build, not what you destroy.”
How true.
Why then are we escalating the war in Afghanistan? An action that will surely create more destruction and devastation, a course which may preclude us from building a political solution—the real path to peace.
Similarities between Johnson’s Vietnam and Obama’s Afghanistan are already being drawn. Read more here.
Tell President Obama, Vice President Biden, your Senators and member of Congress we need a political solution to secure Afghanistan—history teaches us that there is no military solution.
Cut the Military Budget
The United States is facing an economic crisis unlike any it has seen in 80 years. The Federal Reserve and FDIC have already spent trillions on the bailout. Now Congress has approved an economic stimulus that will cost near $800 billion. The national debt is over $10 trillion and the annual deficit is over $1 trillion. How is the United States going to pay for it? How is it going to fund the new energy economy, schools, education, health care and other urgent needs? One solution: cut the wasteful and bloated military budget.
Tell the president, your senators, and your representative to cut the military budget and invest in rebuilding America.
