April 1, 2010
Hello Sonoma County volunteers,
Our deadline comes up soon. Please broadcast this to all your friends…...
73% of Californians support restoring Democracy to Sacramento.
A remarkable seventy-three percent of California likely voters support majority rule in the legislature for both revenue and budget, a new poll by David Binder of DB-Research shows. This is overwhelming support for the California Democracy Act, a November 2010 ballot initiative that states,
“All legislative actions on revenue and budget must be determined by a majority vote.”
But first we must collect enough signatures to qualify George Lakoff’s initiative for the November ballot, and we need your help. Please take these steps TODAY:
1) Download and sign the attached petition, or go to http://GrassrootsForDemocracy.com/petdownload.html and download it from there. Fill it all out, sign it (twice), and put it in the mail, today.
2) Forward this email on to everyone you know today, and urge them to do the same, today.
Mail the signed petitions by April 5.
PLEASE ACT NOW!
At present, a 63 percent majority in the legislature is being blocked by a 37 percent minority on everyday legislation. The two-thirds rules permit this because just about every piece of everyday legislation requires revenue and must be part of the budget. The California Democracy Act would change two words in the California Constitution, from “two-thirds” to “a majority” in two places. This would break the budget gridlock crisis that we witness every year in Sacramento.
You can restore a government that works for all Californians by signing the attached petition, or going to http://GrassrootsForDemocracy.com/petdownload.html . From there, download the petition, print it out, fill it all out, sign it (twice), and mail it in, today. We need your petition by April 5.
Finally, we need more than just your signature: forward this email on to everyone you know, today, and urge them to do the same!
Thank you,
Californians for Democracy
