November 30, 2009
Hello PDA members….I must rush. I am near Creech Air Force Base in Nevada with Cindy Sheehan , Gold Star Mother of Casey ,who was killed in Iraq in 2004. We left Berkeley on Sat., Nov 28, 2009 in a van. We met Cindy at Travis Air Force Base where winds were very high. It was, in fact , a lot of stormy weather in terms of the incidents that occurred at Travis.
Media met us there. As Cindy was speaking through a bull horn, a retired veteran in full dress uniform confronted her verbally at first and moved very close to her shouting. She asked him to get out of her face and he then stuck the bull horn she was holding in her hands with considerable force. Xan , Code Pink. leader of this action, moved in between Cindy and the gentleman who declined to give his name later on. The gentleman pushed other women soon after being asked what he was doing by Xan.
You can go to U Tube and put in Cindy Sheehan Travis and see at least three videos of this incident. Cindy did not touch the gentleman after he stuck her bull horn. Later, she wanted to charge him and the police presence told her that she could do so and it is my understanding that they told her that the gentleman would also charge her. There has been a lot of publicity , some negative especially on radio and some positive in terms of Cindy being physically threatened.
When we began to leave, the Code Pink Truck stopped to allow a woman who was on the roadway into the passanger seat. Cindy, who was driving a car, paused in the road to allow the woman to get in and off the road. Then, Cindy was pulled over by the police and charged with obstructing the roadway. No one else was charged on this morning but Cindy Sheehan.
There are also some photographs. I must go now. we are heading out to walk the two miles to Creech …..this base is where those operating computers send the drones to hit targets in Afganistan, Iraq and Pakistan. The drones often kill and maim many innocent civilians when the computer operators aim a drone to get someone they are instructed to hit. We are working to publicize these deaths, displacements of civilians and maiming of many persons with our tax dollars.
In my view, Congress is responsible to stop the funding right now of the wars on Iraq, Afganistan and the attacks on Pakistan with our tax dollars. Congress can do this and our Representatives and Senators are supposed to be representing the citizens of these United States. It is time to pressure all Representatives to do their job and stop the killing and maiming and displacement of innocent people in other countries. It is time to bring home the military and the contractors that are based in these countries where so many are being harmed .
thank you for all you are doing. photos will follow later. Meg Whitaker-Greene
