Dear Representative Woolsey,
October’s Brown Bag Lunch Vigils are making three simple but important requests: Sign Rep. Raul Grijalva’s letter to President Obama urging no cuts to Social Security, join Rep. John Conyers’ Out of Afghanistan Caucus, and cosponsor Rep. Barbara Lee’s HR 6045 to expedite our exit from Afghanistan.
Thank you for being a member of the Congressional Progressive Caucus. Your unwavering voice and vote for progressive legislation is what will pull us away from regressive and unjust policies and lead us toward peace, equality for all, and an accountable government.
Thank you for signing the letter that can tip the scales to prevent unnecessary and harmful cuts to Social Security—the social safety net of which we should all be proud. You understand that our so-called entitlement programs are actually the embodiment of a just, equitable, and compassionate society. Social Security–and Medicare—should be supported and expanded.
Thank you for joining the Out of Afghanistan Caucus. You have demonstrated that you understand the waste, futility, and immorality of our intrusion into Afghanistan to pursue an enemy that cannot be fought geographically. The rationalizations for our continued presence in Afghanistan are evidence of ignoble motives that neither benefit the American people nor the Afghans.
Thank you for cosponsoring HR 6045. Representative Lee has crafted legislation whose time is well past due. The only responsible thing to do with our military situation in Afghanistan is to end it with a “safe and orderly withdrawal.” The cost in lives and treasure must cease, so that we can rebuild our wrecked economy, employ our work force meaningfully, and care for the health, dignity, and well-being of our society.
Your constituents are grateful for the actions you have taken to ensure that we move toward being a nation of peace that cares for all of our people, not just a few.
Please hold firm to your commitment to protect Social Security. Please continue to support the progressive values that will lead us back to earning international respect by our showing respect for our own people and others.
