A Resolution in Support of Building a Green Local Economy and Urging the Santa Rosa City Council to Move Forward with the Recommendations of the Council Advisory Committee on Green Building
Whereas the Sonoma County Democrat Party is deeply committed to promoting aggressive climate change solutions at all levels of government, and Whereas the Santa Rosa City Council convened a diverse Council Advisory Committee on Green Building Policy in October 2007, who have deliberated for over a year on how best to reduce the carbon footprint of Santa Rosa’s built environment, and
Whereas the Council Advisory Committee voted to transmit a list of recommendations to the City Council which will reduce GHG emissions, increase energy independence, help keep people more healthy and comfortable in their homes and stimulate the local economy, and
Whereas strong “green building” policies to reduce our dependence on fossil fuels locally are not only necessary to combat climate change, but also to lay the foundation for a new green
economy, and
Whereas the Council Advisory Committee has recommended that the green building standard for commercial construction be set at a LEED Certified level, yet a LEED Gold level can be achieved at little to no incremental cost but with tremendous community benefit,
We, the Sonoma County Democratic Party, therefore urge the City Council to adopt a LEED Gold standard for commercial construction but otherwise give our strong support to the recommendations of the Council Advisory Committee on Green Building Policy, and we urge the Santa Rosa City Council to accept the Committee’s report at their December 16th meeting.
