Progressive Democrats Sonoma County is pleased to present The Single Payer Players in The Sound of Moolah, an original musical melodrama/puppet show about healthcare reform, on Saturday, August 8th, at 2:00PM, at the Rohnert Park Library, 6250 Lynn Conde Way.

The lively puppet show, a take-off on The Sound of Music, invites audience participation. The characters include Dr. Maria, an idealistic young physician; the Von Trappeds, a family struggling with medical expenses; a shepherd with social anxiety disorder; a set of Siamese quintuplets; President Obama; insurance and drug company executives, and more. All of the songs from the original musical have new lyrics, and the words are in the program so the audience can sing along. The show is touring widely around California, and we are fortunate to be able to see it in Rohnert Park.

The Players are a group of doctors, nurses, therapists, and their friends, who created the show to have fun educating the community about reforming our healthcare system to provide healthcare for all—affordably. The show is the brain child of Dr. Wendy Ring, the dynamic founder and medical director of the Mobile Medical Clinic in Northern Humboldt. Wendy wrote the script and lyrics, and built the puppets.

Asked why she is so passionate about healthcare reform, Ring simply answered, “I’m a doctor. I take care of uninsured people. That’s my life. I have a front row seat to the disaster that is our health system.”

The Sound of Moolah is a fun and entertaining way to learn what every citizen should know about the politics and economics of health reform.

The show begins at 2 pm; doors open at 1:30.
