Sonoma County Democrats urge Supervisors to deny approval of proposed Dutra asphalt plant

May 11, 2010

SANTA ROSA, CA – The Sonoma County Democratic Party has passed a resolution urging the Sonoma County Board of Supervisors to deny approval of the proposed location of the Dutra asphalt plant at Haystack Landing on the Petaluma River, across from Shollenberger Park.

If approved, the Dutra plant would be located in a designated scenic corridor, and the expected decrease in air quality and increase in noise and truck traffic would have a negative impact on the wetlands and sensitive wildlife habitat of Shollenberger Park.

NEGATIVE CAMPAIGNING IN DEMOCRAT VS. DEMOCRAT RACES

by Stephen Gale
May 8, 2010

This election year is turning nasty. But they always do.

In partisan races, one expects to hear the Republican front-runner for Governor referred to by Democratic Party Leadership as “An empty suit,” even if the empty suit is named Meg Whitman. Unfortunately, this year the derogatory innuendo, half-truths, lies and damn lies told in negative campaign advertising is spilling over into both local non-partisan political races where all contenders are Democrats as well as the Democratic Primary races.

DEMOCRATSTAKING BACK CALIFORNIA!

The Sonoma County Democratic Party’s Annual Crab Feed is an “all you can eat” grass-roots celebration that is one of the best-attended political events of the year.

This event has sold out consistently for a decade and 2010 will be the same. So place your Sponsorship today — or order individual tickets today.

Dear Friends, In 2008 we took back our country. In 2010 we can take back our state.

During the Presidential campaign, your Sonoma County Democratic Party supported local candidates with phone banks, walking lists, production of campaign materials and a vigorous GOTV effort. Through our efforts, the Petaluma, Santa Rosa and City of Sonoma City Council’s achieved a historical progressive majority. And following the recall in Cotati this year, the Cotati City Council also enjoys a progressive majority.

Imagine what we can do in 2010 if we apply this same level of expertise and personal commitment to remove the Republican vice-like grip on the budget process in State of California?

The California Democratic Party has committed to a 58 County Strategy in 2010. With over 2,000 volunteers fully equipped and well organized – Sonoma County is poised to again make a difference —- here at home and in closely contested districts across our State.

We urge you to help make this vision a reality by becoming a sponsor of this year’s event.

Your sponsorship will help the Committee to:

• Raise the $20,000 they need to purchase a high-tech voter communication system;

• Ensure they can campaign effectively to take back Red California and change the requirement for a 2/3 vote to pass a state budget

• Work with the CDP to adopt red counties and elect Democrats

• Make certain we can elect local Democratic candidates at every level – including, County Supervisors, School Boards and City Councils

By electing a Democratic super-majority in our two State houses and a Democratic Governor we will stop the Republicans reckless control due to the two-thirds vote and veto power. Even better, we can change the 2/3’s requirement for passage of a budget with a statewide initiative.

Our local party is committed to playing a pivotal role – as the hub of phone banking and other activities to:

• Turn Assembly and Senate districts from Red to Blue across California

• Revise the 2/3 requirement to pass a state budget

• Repeal Proposition 8

• Save our State Parks, fund our schools and provide for the most in need

We have the will and the volunteers. During this election year we must build our capability to do more. This is an investment that will pay at the polls for years to come. We ask that you support our endeavor by purchasing a sponsorship.

Sponsorships are:

$1500 President 16Tickets (reserved table & special recogniton at the dinner)

$1000 Governor 10 Tickets (reserved table)

$500 Speaker of the House 6 Tickets (reserved table)

$300 Senator 4 Tickets

$150 Congress Member 2 Tickets

Individual tickets can be purchased for $50.00

Thank you for your support, and we look forward to seeing you at the Crab Feed!
