Healthcare Not Warfare

Norman Soloman – Donna Smith – and Tim Carpenter of Progressive Democrats of America join Thom Hartmann. The “Healthcare not Warfare” campaign is raising awareness about our deteriorating healthcare system that’s bankrupting millions of Americans and leaving them sick with nowhere to go. And while this is going on – our nation is spending hundreds of billions of dollars on endless wars in the Middle East. So the choice is simple – do we keep funding “black hole” wars – or start making Americans healthy again? Please sign “Healthcare not Warfare” petition at http://bit.ly/jZlPGZ

Wednesday Vigils Planned at Congressional Offices Nationwide

PDA Press Release
March 15, 2011

Progressive Democrats of America and allies have planned vigils at congress members’ offices in districts all over the United States for midday Wednesday. They will be demanding an end to the war in Afghanistan the same day General David Petraeus is questioned by the House Armed Services Committee and the day before the House is scheduled to vote on ending the war (resolution HCR 28).

“People everywhere have been supporting the activism in Madison, Wisconsin, this week,” said PDA National Director Tim Carpenter. “We’ve seen a people’s movement compel Democrats to stand up straight and push back, a far superior outcome than continued ‘bipartisanship,’ in the view of most Americans. We’re taking that energy national this week to insist on a change in priorities. Our country is bankrupt morally, not financially. We need to move the money where it can do some good.”

TAKE ACTION - A Platform for Prosperity: Healthcare NOT Warfare

February 25, 2011
By Tim Carpenter

After bailing out the bazillionaires on Wall Street, and throwing billions at a bad war in Iraq and a failed war in Afghanistan, the GOP’s answer to the voters of America is austerity and more sacrifice for anyone earning under a hundred grand a year—and that’s most of us. We can kiss goodbye our jobs, home ownership, our children’s education, healthcare, Social Security, and a host of other necessities that generate prosperity.

PDA’s Arizona Peace and Social Justice Road Tour—Day 4 |

February 24, 2011
By Mimi Kennedy, PDA Advisory Board Chair

It’s Tuesday Feb. 22, in Phoenix, AZ and since Saturday, the Progressive Democrats of America Arizona Tour has already mobilized hundreds of activists in Bisbee, Naco and Tucson. We sang with the voices coming through the notorious fence on the hyper-militarized border at Naco, and we joined hundreds of activists today at the Arizona Legislature in Phoenix to protest the shockingly inhumane and probably unconstitutional proposed state law (SB 1113) that seeks every possible way to punish anyone living undocumented in this state—regardless of how long they’ve been here or how embedded and valuable they are in their communities.

Progressive Democrats Work to Get Out the Vote

October 22, 2010

Congressional Progressive Caucus Co-Chair Congresswoman Lynn Woolsey, Progressive Democrats of America (PDA) Chair Mimi Kennedy, Chair of PDA’s Healthcare NOT Warfare campaign Norman Solomon, and other progressive leaders take to the road to get out the progressive vote on November 2nd.

“We believe the strategic approach to this election is to support the very best Democratic candidates in close races,” said PDA National Director Tim Carpenter. “This differs from those backing the most progressive candidates whom our electoral system is stacked against, and it differs from those working to maintain a Democratic majority by backing the least progressive Democrats. We want not only a majority that’s not Republican, but also a caucus within that majority that strives to represent the American people.”

Jam the switchboard on July 1

While President Obama’s debt commission works to undermine Social Security and Medicare as part of the nonsensical austerity measures proposed by neocons to relieve the debt created, in large part, by two wars of choice, Congress is poised to approve another $1 million per troop for a total of more than 33 billion dollars!

The pressure we’ve been applying on Congress to vote against the supplemental funding bill for the war in Afghanistan has made a difference. Forty House members have decided to vote no, and at least 10 more are on the fence.

Our sources are telling us that Congress will vote tomorrow, July 1.

The Agitator: Voices of PDA Episode 7 – Rep. Raul Grijalva and PDA AZ Coordinator Dan O’Neal

Rep. Raul Grijalva called for a boycott of Arizona following the passage of SB 1070, the bill that has focused national attention on Arizona’s regressive immigration policies. “We’re on the wrong side of history,” proclaims Grijalva in part one of this episode. “Apartheid Arizona”–that’s how Dan O’Neal refers to his home state. Just days before the big demonstration in Phoenix, O’Neal discusses how PDA is impacting the debate. Listen to Tim Carpenter interview Grijalva and O’Neal on this timely topic.

Grand Central Station

__

It was like Grand Central Station in Washington, D.C., last week when PDA teams of citizen-lobbyists took to three different tracks on Capitol Hill.

The Stop Global Warming/Environmental Issues Organizing Team has been focusing most of its energy on passing a good climate/energy bill, which actually addresses the problem. Frustrated by the many flaws in the bills under serious consideration, this IOT decided it was time to start the push for Plan B—the carbon tax with revenue returned to households.
